Drug Abuse Awareness- It’s Important to Speak Out
An Article about Drug Abuse Awareness- Saving Sheen
This past December, I read the New York Post on a flight back from meetings in Washington, DC and I came across a moving article about drug abuse awareness titled “Saving Sheen” about the creator of “Two and a Half Men”, Chuck Lorre, and his stand against Charlie Sheen’s addiction. Lorre had the courage to stop enabling his misbehavior and made the decision to shut down production because he “Didn’t want to be writing a sitcom while my friend died. Or worse, hurt someone else.”
I thought this drug abuse awareness article was a good correlation to my son, Ian. So many people knew about Ian’s addiction while he was in college and not one person spoke up. Silence killed Ian, and Chuck Lorre made it clear that he was not going to see that happen to his dear friend. Lorre also stated that, “On a certain level, if you’re looking the other way, you’re responsible.” As a companion to a close friend or family member, you should guide your children and close friends on the right path instead of predicting danger that can occur.
